AoE Damage Rotation

The build idea is for you to start by using and apply Vulnerable, pull the mobs with , and if you need to increase your Charge, you can activate . Then, to clear the waves, you will use  to apply Weaken and deal damage; if you want to clear them faster, use . If necessary, use your  for Burst Damage and to activate your buffs.

Single-Target Rotation

For single-target, the rotation is pretty similar. You'll want to kick things off with  then pop   right away to build up your Charge.

Once that's set, follow up with to land the Weaken debuff, and immediately chain that into . From there, your main focus is cycling between and until comes off cooldown.

Pro-tips for maximizing DPS:

  • Maintain Debuffs: Always weave in Split the Sky and Inhuman Shockwave to keep those debuffs active on the boss.

  • Resource Management: Use Killing Word as a filler whenever you need to top off your Charge.

Medallions

The War Skrull medallion is actually a solid pick for a hybrid setup

It’s definitely not the BiS option, but if you're struggling with your Crit , the Rhino Medallion can definitely help you out.

Rings

You can also run the Kamar-Taj ring. It’s a solid choice because it gives you a nice Crit Rating boost, and more importantly, it procs a 2-second shield right after you pop your Signature.

The Midtown Signet is a viable option if you want to go that route, but personally, I still prefer focusing on Brutal Damage. The Midtown ring is decent for the movement proc.

Uru-forged

Running War Gauntlets is definitely the move if you’re looking to squeeze out every bit of extra damage possible. However,  I personally prefer sticking with the War Plate for the added bulk. It’s really a matter of preference, but the Gauntlets are a solid alternative. If you're leaning more into a hybrid playstyle,   is an excellent pick.

Slot 2

Technically, the Bodysuit I have in the build is the best option, especially for the cosmic buff synergy. The only catch is that it’s a nightmare to farm. I’m still hunting for one with that 10% proc chance to shave 1 second off movement cooldowns.

The  is always a solid pick if you're looking to bump up your survivability. If you’re finding yourself a bit too squishy, it’s a totally viable option to help keep you on your feet during tougher encounters.

If you're looking for something practical and quick to farm, you can always just stick with Black Bolt's own  gear. It’s a very solid 'plug-and-play' option that gets the job done while you're working toward your endgame setup.

For Slot 2, I’ve been running , and honestly, I’m really liking it. I originally picked it up for the Power Duration and the Brutal Damage boost, and to be fair, it’s performing way better than I expected. It feels great on this build.

Slot 4

If you're looking to maximize your Signature cooldown reduction but haven't managed to snag a   yet, the   is a great alternative. Since it’s one of Black Bolt’s own uniques, it’s much easier to get your hands on and still puts in work for the build until you get the upgrade.

is definitely a solid alternative if you're not feeling the Terrigen Codex or the Skrull Military uniform. It fits the movement theme perfectly, but honestly, I’d still stick with the Skrull Military for my main setup.

Slot 5

The is a totally viable, easy-to-get option for Black Bolt if you don't have the   yet. It’s a great 'entry-level' pick to fill that slot, though Summer Shades are still my top choice for the better stats once you can get your hands on them.

If you're not feeling the  or the ,  the is another solid route you can take. It’s a really strong alternative if you're looking for a good mix of stats

Artifacts

If you've managed to get your hands on a , that’s your go-to artifact for cranking up your Brutal Damage. It’s easily the best pick if you want to see those massive red crits and really maximize your burst potential during your rotation.

The  is a choice for a hybrid setup. If you don't have   or just prefer the stat spread, you can easily swap it in.

Bonus

You should always treat your Hero Synergies as a flexible tool to balance your build. If you’ve already hit your Crit Hit goals, go ahead and swap out Cable or Black Bolt for some raw Crit Damage from Hawkeye or Mr. Fantastic. If your crit damage is feeling solid, focus on boosting your Signature, Area, or Physical Damage. And hey, if you're getting shredded in high-tier content, don't be afraid to slot in some defensive synergies for better survivability. You also have the option to fine-tune your Base Attributes through synergies. For example, picking up Gambit is a great move for Black Bolt, it gives you +1 Energy, which translates to a 4% boost in Base Damage, another great call is Beast, he gives you a point in Intelligence and movement damage.

You can definitely use Black Bolt's character-specific uniques as placeholders until you find better drops. The goal is to hit that sweet spot of 50-55% Crit and 50-60% Brutal Strike. Once you're there, dump everything else into Crit and Brutal Damage.  Also, don't sleep on Fighting and Energy attributes they scale your Base Damage significantly. At the end of the day, keep an eye on your stat sheet and tune it to whatever feels best for your playstyle.

I’m currently deep in the lab, theorycrafting and fine-tuning the ultimate Black Bolt build! If you’ve got a passion for min-maxing or some secret tech to push this hero to the limit, I want to hear from you. Leave your ideas and suggestions in the comments, let’s test some gear combos together and break the meta.
