This is another quick guide. Yes, a highly-rated melee build already exists on Bugle, but it doesn't really min/max Captain Marvel to her limit. Anyway, I found Captain Marvel a fun hero who scales super heavily off her resource, Photonic Energy. A lot of + spirit items are a big upgrade on her.

Play Captain Marvel if...

  • You like hard hitting powers and big red numbers. Many of her powers hit for over a million damage when they brutal. Also, Ground-Shattering Smash is an auto-crit, and Cosmic Haymaker has +25% critical and brutal chance. You will see the big red numbers often.
  • You like big aoe powers with good clear. Both Ground-Shattering Smash and Crashdown Strike hit very hard and cover a lot of area. Even Cosmic Haymaker, when it connects, has a small aoe.
  • You like gearing that's a bit different from the average hero. Captain Marvel scales heavily from +spirit gear, thanks to most of her cooldowns and cosmic haymaker scaling off her resource, Photonic Energy.
  • You don't like chasing after cosmics or boss uniques. Aside from Fragment of Twilight, all of her own uniques are best in slot.

Don't play Captain Marvel if...

  • You don't like playing around one hard hitting power and managing your resource around it. Cosmic Haymaker is a big part of Melee Captain Marvel's kit, and it requires half of your Photonic Energy.
  • You want someone who doesn't need a lot of IP. You can play Captain Marvel at lower IP, but she feels better at higher IP (800+) because she wants to max out more nodes than the average hero.
  • You want someone tanky. Captain Marvel does have some damage mitigation thanks to Radiant Cascade's 50% damage resistance and Crashdown Strike's hp shield, but in between those powers she can be shockingly vulnerable.

Gear

An  works in slot 5 too. The dps is close, but not as good as Warbird's Mask. However, Octobot Controller has more health and a nice medkit proc.

Alternative Artifacts:

Starter Artifacts:

Medallion Alternative:  - The dps isn't quite as good, but it also has health and area damage reduction, making it a good option. Actually, I could see this being a better option for raids thanks to the proc, but there is no good way to test. Furthermore, the enrage field that drops after defeating an enemy is nice in patrols.

Ring Alternative: Nothing can match Stone of Jordan on her, but it was a one-time login gift so it's not readily available. If you missed it, the graduation ring is your next best option.

Rotation

The purpose of the starting rotation is to proc Cybernetic Implant  ASAP, then trigger the procs on Warbird's Mask  because both procs are a lot of additional damage.

To start:  x2 ->  ->  x2 ->  -> ->  ->  ->  -> hold down  ->  x2...

...The rotation breaks down after this, but basically you're holding down  and trying to  at every opportunity, and use , and  to restore Photonic Energy for more . As a general rule you want to empty your Photonic Energy before  and  because they both restore 100% of your Energy.
