War Machine Cosmic Trial Guide (Tahiti) - With Video

Hello! This is a guide to help you clear the cosmic trial on low IP with common gear you can easily find anywhere. This is NOT an end-game build, nor it is the build I use, but I wanted to emphasize an easy to use build to pass the trial.
To be honest, ranged War Machine is much weaker than Melee War Machine, so here is a melee build if you are having trouble beating the trial with this build.
Clear Video:
Set Up
I followed the guidelines Lil set in his guides, which is a cap of 150 infinity points, and nothing that requires a ridiculous amount of grinding. 150 infinity points does not require too much grinding. To quote Lil.
I capped myself at 150 Infinity Points for these trial guides. It won't take too long to build up that many. By the time you've leveled up a few characters for synergies and farmed some Heroic (Red) Challenges and terminals for some gear you may even be past 150 IP when you try the trial. Worst thing that can happen when you try the trial is you fail there is no punishment. So give it a shot and see if you're missing damage, survivability or both.
The purpose of this build is to safely shoot everything from afar. BTW, there is a good chance that the left talent in the third row, Autonomous Missile Deployment, is better than the talent I used, Thermal Boosting.
Synergies
I used all the typical physical synergies.
Infinities
I dumped points into Temporal Loophole for the attack speed and extra dash.
Gear
- War Machine needs the dps so I used gungnir.
might be the best ilvl 70 legendary but I didn't have one. I would not recommend Shield of Perseus because War Machine's dps is pretty lackluster.
Artifacts: The artifacts I used are mostly common easy to find ones that don't require target farming.
,
, and
all raise crit rating and/or brutal rating so you can get some nice orange and red numbers. I used
because I actually failed the trial the first time due to my impatience with War Machine's lack of DPS, but it's not necessary. If you have boss artifacts such as
and
, use them because they're better dps.
Slots 1-5: I simply used all of War Machine's uniques. He has good uniques and some are even best in slot or close to it for him.
Ring: I used a brutal rating and durability cosmic ring to up my dps. A
or
are better choices but that requires shield supply box RNG or target farming, and this guide's purpose is to get you into cosmic patrols ASAP.
Medallion:
. This is an event medallion. If you don't have one then Grim Reaper
is good substitute.
Catalyst: Anything with the 50% damage shield on medkit use is good.
Team Up
Jessica Jones, grouping up enemies is really good and your aoe skills are all cooldowns. Quicksilver does the same thing but on a higher cooldown if you're tired of Jessica Jones.
Playstyle
You're going to be shooting a lot.
- This is your filler, you fire this when everything else is off cooldown.
- This is your dash, use it to get out of big red bad attacks.
- This is your spirit/suit power restore. Don't worry about being close enough to hit enemies with it, it's not a significant part of War Machine's DPS. Thanks to the Reactive Defensive Systems talent in the 4th row it also gives you a shield and restores your health.
- This is good aoe clear on a cooldown. Against a single target, use it off cooldown.
- A strong aoe dot power. I like using this after
to load plasma rounds, which increase the damage of your machine gun powers.
- This is what you use to dump your heat. Ideally you want to use it when you're overheated for maximum damage, but against normal and elite enemies, you can use this as a clear power when your heat is high enough. Be aware when overheated you might need to press the key/button multiple times just so the power can cast.
- This is powerful nuke on a long cooldown that also leaves a small aoe dot.
- War Machine's Signature. Good aoe and decent burst. It's on a long cooldown so I wouldn't recommend using it for trash clear. Use it off cooldown against Elites and Bosses.
I recommend using your ult when the second sentinel is below half health. This lets you hit both the Sentinel and Red Skull if done correctly.
Hopefully this guide helps you clear the cosmic trial with ease so you can get big loot drops and those sweet cosmic artifacts. Thanks to Lil for the other Cosmic Trial guides and the format. He's doing great work helping out beginners and getting them into the end game.
Thanks for reading!
