Hello! This is a guide to help you clear the cosmic trial on low IP with common gear you can easily find anywhere. This is vaguely based on Lozareth's weaving build, but I did it without the weaving because I know a lot of people don't like weaving. FYI, this is *not* an end game guide, it's a guide to beat the cosmic trial. Here is an end game build.

 

Clear Video: Note - You might notice I used the left talent in slot 1, that was a mistake. I was testing out some talents and powers on Torch and forgot to switch back to fuel for the fire.

Set Up

I followed the guidelines Lil set in his guides, which is a cap of 150 infinity points, and nothing that requires a ridiculous amount of grinding. 150 infinity points does not require too much grinding. To quote Lil.

 

I capped myself at 150 Infinity Points for these trial guides. It won't take too long to build up that many. By the time you've leveled up a few characters for synergies and farmed some Heroic (Red) Challenges and terminals for some gear you may even be past 150 IP when you try the trial. Worst thing that can happen when you try the trial is you fail there is no punishment. So give it a shot and see if you're missing damage, survivability or both.

The purpose of this build is to really let your dots and Fiery Tornadoes do the work while you sit there and fire your fiery...beam?

Synergies

I used all the area energy synergies + Angela because of Torch's archetype.

Infinities

I dumped points into temporal loophole because attack and move speed are very good.

Gear

- I simply wanted to dish out more deeps. Honestly, is a good choice because Human Torch is very squishy.

 

Artifacts: The artifacts I used are all common easy to find ones that don't require target farming. , and  all raise crit rating and/or brutal rating so you can get some nice orange and red numbers.  If you don't know where to get the medal of valor, complete chapter 10 in story mode. If you have boss artifacts such as  and , use them because they're better dps.

 

Slots 1-5: I simply used all of Torch's uniques. Aside from his slot 2, they're all good, and his own slot 3 is best in slot.

 

Ring: I used a defensive health ring because Torch is squishy, and you'll have more than enough dps to clear the trial as long as you're applying dots and spamming fiery tornadoes off cooldown. A  is BiS but that requires a shield supply box or farming the dimensions collide terminal, and this guide is meant to get you into cosmic patrols ASAP.

 

Medallion: > . Power duration is good for this build because it extends dot timers and hoiw long your flame cyclones last.

 

Catalyst: Anything with the 50% damage shield should be adequate.

 

Team Up

Jessica Jones, grouping up enemies is really good and the aoe on this build is not great. Quicksilver does the same thing but on a higher cooldown if you're tired of Jessica Jones.

 

Playstyle

You're going to be throwing down a lot of dots and firing your beam from a distance.

 

- This is your signature. You want to start fights with this because it immediately puts you in overheat mode, which is increased damage and effects on certain powers. Also, you can't use unless you're overheated thanks to the Heat Wave talent so it's important you overheat ASAP.

- This is a trash clear power and also used when everything else is on cooldown.

- This is your dash. If Torch is overheated then you can run through enemies and apply a dot, but it's not worth going out of your way to do.

- This is your vulnerability power, it's also a ground dot. You don't want to cast this off cooldown on a single target because its biggest use is the vulnerability and dot, not the direct damage. You want to cast this roughly every two Fiery Tornadoes.

- This is another ground dot. The one catch is that the dot only applies if Torch is on overheat mode. It's not worth using this if you're not in overheat mode.

- This is...say it with me! A ground dot! Great at trash clear on top of being another damage layer. Against a single target, you want to cast this roughly every two Fiery Tornadoes.

- Thanks to the Flame Cyclone and Heat Wave talents, this is a huge source of damage. A few caveats, you can only use this while Torch is in overheat mode, and you want to make sure you have applied your dots before using this against Madame Hydra or Red Skull. Otherwise, just spam it off cooldown.

- I wasn't sure what to put here so I put this on right click. If you like weaving then tap this on occasion while firing . If you don't want this slot to go to waste, you could slot instead. Be aware using fiery rejuvenation consumes all your dots so you have to reapply them.
