Hello! This is a guide to get you through the Cosmic Trial with Cyclops. Note: This is NOT the best Cyclops. It is NOT end game Cyclops. This is intended to get you through the Cosmic Trial so you can farm gear and move on to a bigger and better build.
Set Up
I capped myself at 150 Infinity Points for these trial guides. It won't take too long to build up that many. By the time you've leveled up a few characters for synergies and farmed some Heroic (Red) Challenges and terminals for some gear you may even be past 150 IP when you try the trial. Worst thing that can happen when you try the trial is you fail there is no punishment. So give it a shot and see if you're missing damage, survivability or both.
Synergies
I used the synergies that were best that I have currently unlocked in 1.0. Some noticeable ones I did not have: Beast and Ultron give + 1 Int. Surfer gives + energy damage. Star Lord gives + Energy Crit Hit. Captain Marvel gives energy damage.
Infinities
As I said in the Set Up. I capped myself at 150 (ish) IP. I put 37 ranks into Temporal Loophole in the Time Stone. Attack Speed and Movement Speed are both incredibly powerful. And 1 point into Time Gem Infusion.
Gear
- is your best bet for damage at ilvl 70. The
or
are also valid choices. I went with Gungnir but if I were to play him into later game and got an ilvl 80 item it would be the Control Rod or a
. I normally say
is a decent choice for survivability but in this case I just feel like Cyke's damage is too low to take a defensive option.
I used all of Cyclops' character specific uniques for this trial. There's no reason not to put challenge bonuses on your Uniques at the crafter. I put random uniques on (to save on specific challenge tokens) and rerolled until I got Energy or Intelligence.
All of these items provide damage and + to energy or Intelligence - which in turn provide more damage. It really felt like this was what Scott needed the most to clear the trial was more damage. So I grabbed as much as I could. As I mention in the video Cyclops needs a little more investment then some other heroes to help with his low damage. These artifacts may be a little more time consuming to farm up.

could all be good replacements. Use Hela Blessings on your artifacts. They can be transferred to new artifacts when you find better. A good source of power early on.
- This helped w/ keeping Spirit up so I could hold down
as long as I needed to whenever I needed to.
- We benefit from most of the stats on here and the +1 to all stats for a cosmic version. Really we're interested in the power duration. Keeps beast around a little longer. Buffs up a little longer.
- This can be a hard one to find. A
with crit/crit/brut could work as well. Or an
.
- The havok specific is nice. I picked this one for the crit hit/ crit damage.
- The spirit on medkit use and the shield on medkit use are really important. There's no reason not to go the crafter and put Critical Damage on all 4 affixes as well.
Team Up
Jessica Jones is my Team Up of choice for Cosmic Trial. Her grouping and tanking is invaluable.
Playstyle
Cyclops takes a little more investment than some other heroes. You do have to get some decent gear to get through the trial at 150 IP.
Our basic plan is to hit our buffs before using our Emma and Beast Strike Team. Important to note they are not summons and don't operate like summons in the game mechanics. Emma is a big single hit. Beast will stick around for a bit to do damage.
- These are our 2 buffs that enhance our damage. In our initial burst we want to pop these 2 then Call in Emma.
and Beast
. Unfortunately all of these cooldowns don't sync up, so you'll have to make decision if you want to use a strike team w/out a buff. You really do want to keep Emma paired up with Overwatch as best you can.
- Roots you in place. Does decent damage. Gives some Damage Reduction. Can pop it after your two strike teams.
- My favorite Cyclops ability. Does a good job of clearing trash. Applies a bleed thanks to a talent. If fighting one enemy (Madame Hydra, Red Skull or one of their body guards) you can pop one of these every 6s or so to keep the bleed up but you mainly only want to use this to clear groups of enemies.
- When your Buffs are used and your Strike Teams called in and you're one on one it's time to use the Focused Beam. Our spirit regen in our gear will allow us to use this as much as needed.
To recap this is not the end game Cyclops guide. It's not definitive at all. I know most people will level Cyclops at some point (ideally earlier as his XP synergy makes leveling all characters a bit quicker) and if you want to take him to Cosmic I hope this guide helps you do that. That way you can move on to bigger and better guides!
(I did not try Punchclops - feel free. Luke has a new Tahiti version of it. You can find it here: https://itembase.mhbugle.com/build/8651/ He recommends you don't play it. But you do you.)
Thanks!
Lil
