With the release of TBUE, as one of Kitty's biggest fans I thought it would be a good time to finally make a Kitty guide. Rather than being about how to do the most damage with the best gear, this is about how the squeeze the most out of Kitty with extremely low gear and IP. As such, the itemization is mostly just to show what's possible - it's clearly far from optimal, and anyone starting out will easily be able to get good replacements for all of this gear. Also, as you can see in the video, I have about 40 seconds left on the timer when Surtur dies, so you can go even lower than this.
What makes this possible?
In order to replicate this yourself, you should have a good understanding of why it's even possible in the first place. The short answer is that Kitty has a lot of invulnerability windows which allow for constant uptime, while also having a good amount of damage.
There are 4 key abilities involved here: ![]()
![]()
![]()
. Watch Your Step and Phasing Samurai both provide extremely similar benefits - they both provide an invulnerability window, they both provide a multiplicative buff (10% vulnerability and 15% melee damage increases) for your biggest damage ability (
), and they both increase your crit damage by 40%, which is equivalent to roughly 3200 crit damage rating each; they both also have a good CC ability, although
has the edge here. Just a Phase is one of the best damage buff abilities in the game, with an extra 25% total damage multiplier, as well as some slight survivability and attack speed buffs. Finally, Phased Out is an incredibly hard-hitting signature ability, which also provides a long invulnerability window.
Most of the damage in this build comes from stacking up buffs from ![]()

and applying a Lockheed dot (
or
, I just have a personal preference for spitballs) on to whichever enemy you want to hit, and then using
. The survivability comes from the invulnerability windows and a medkit shield.
The details - killing Loki
In the video, I have a slightly silly death against loki from being a bit too confident - don't worry about getting a death or even two here, you should be able to do surtur deathless. The main thing here is just to kill the clones quickly in the first phase then use your sig, then kite and repeat if needed. It's totally fine to start using the sig while the clones are still alive - you should be able to hit them all at once, and they should die in the first couple of hits.
After the phase change, just stay in close and time your invulnerability windows to dodge big telegraphed attacks. Here you can use
to interrupt Loki's big wind up attack that he asks you to take cover for - watch your step is one of the best CC abilities in the game because it can repeatedly interrupt the vast majority of bosses, and Loki is one of them.
The details - killing Surtur
The most important thing here is that at certain health points Surtur will summon a miniboss, and he will become invulnerable to damage while this miniboss is alive. The general cycle here is to do a big sig window on surtur, go and kill a miniboss, repeat. I used my ult right at the start of the fight, but I think it's also pretty good to use it during the twins or the sisters minibosses.
The second most important thing here is maximising your damage uptime - anything I describe in this section also applies to the Surtur boss fight in the Muspelheim raid. If you try to do this without knowing the dodge timings you will likely die a lot to Surtur plunging his sword into the ground and 1-shotting you. Usually, you hide in one of the big green circles behind a rock to avoid this, but it can also be completely nullified with invulnerability windows. This does require the correct timing:
Once the plunge animation starts, Surtur's tail will swing 5 times and then the sword will go down - start your inuvlnerability window ability on the 5th swing
This invulnerability window can be any one of
,
,
, medkit shield, or lastly
. If you are using
, then you can obviously start the ability sooner than the 5th swing. If you are trying to use your dash as an invulnerability window (which any hero can do), then you either need very good timing or you want to use multiple dashes. Personally, I use either 2 or 3 dashes - if you use 2 and start too early in the swing you will still be hit by the plunge and die, but 3 is almost always safe. You will get a feeling for the exact timing as you do this more.
Finally, I want to quickly mention the green circles that target you when the twins are alive - since you are the only person in the fight, if the meteor hits you it will do a lot of damage. There are 2 ways to avoid this - one is again by using an invulnerability window near the end to fully dodge the meteor damage. The other is what I do in the video, which is kill Lady Hellfire before I get one, since she is the boss that gives them out. Brimstone gives out the red circles, which you can ignore as there is no-one else in the fight.
