Build Concepts

I don't see any builds on this site emphasizing how overpowered Quit It, Hothead! is.  It gives a 75% damage reduction for the duration of the power, which can be enhanced by power duration items.  That damage reduction multiplies with everything else.  If you have 50% damage reduction from defense, that means you take 50% damage, then Quit It, Hothead! cuts incoming damage down to 12.5%.  By itself, Quit It, Hothead! is more mitigation than heroes can get through items alone.  On top of that, it does slightly more damage than your signature, on less than half the cooldown of it.  Only Spider-Man can come close, but isn't 100% uptime on his buff, unlike Thing.

The items I picked for the build give a good balance of offense and defense.  I originally built my Thing to be very defense-focused, but backed off the defense until I got to a point where I felt I could still facetank anything short of Cosmic Terminal Juggernaut charge.  That charge either ignores defense buffs or does 2.5M+ damage, which more than any other enemy in the game.  Wave 40+ Holo-Sim Hulk one-shots most people, but this build doesn't need to use medkits when facetanking him due to health regen and Circlet procs.

Alternate Items

If playing on a server that doesn't have half cooldown times, you need  for the power duration.

You may also want    and/or   to get the duration of Quit It, Hothead! sufficiently above the cooldown.

If  is not available to you,  is good for this build.

On COAhas half the stated cooldown, so it may not be as usefull as a GOK on other servers.

Relic of Chandilar was chosen to increase the damgae of Yancy Street Goodbye.  Relic of Atlantis works fine, too.

 Power Usage

is your most important ability for survivability and damage

gives you 60% of your spirit back when Clobberin Time is active

deals guaranteed critical and brutal hits

should be used after the previous ability for extra damage

  applies vulnerability

provides 50% more multiplicative damage reduction.  If playing outside COA server, consider using  and Heavy Hitter talent instead.

Infinity Point Priorities

Put points in Deep Thought in Mind until you have enough spirit to sustain yourself in combat.  The signature ability restores 60% of your spirit if used during Clobberin Time.

Attack Speed in Time is good to get next.

Critical damage and brutal damage should be the next priorities, then dump everything else into durability.
