NO LONGER UPDATED, I HAVE QUIT THE GAME.
Welcome to my guide on playing the Incantations build for Dr. Strange 2.0! Dr. Strange is a versatile hero with many ways to remain safe while doing consistent DPS through layers of DoTs (damage over time) and big hits. In my guide I will be going over two distinct builds and play styles that don't vary much from each other but perform different functions. I will explain in detail how to maximize performance out of your Dr. Strange along with talking about a healing build that will make Dr. Strange the ultimate support hero. Here you can find a link to my guide on the official Marvel Heroes forums: https://forums.marvelheroes.com/discussion/226046/xaolinthefists-dr-strange-incantations-build-2-0-updated-on-2-7/p1
Incantations
To maximize damage on your opening, you want to first make sure you're at 4 bars of Mysticism. Next you drop a Seal of the Vishanti on top of yourself before anything. This will increase your own damage rating and allow you to snapshot all other abilities you will use. Follow up by using Flames of the Faltine and immediately use your Signature. After using your Signature you will notice that your Mysticism bar has refreshed along with your Incantation cooldowns. I follow this exact rotation to make sure all the powers and Mysticism stacks line up for perfect cooldown resets and maximum damage: Seven Suns of Cinniubs > Flames of the Faltine > Icy Tendrils of Ikthalon > Crimson Bands of Cytorakk > Vapors of Valtorr > Winds of Watoomb > Seal of the Vishanti. Make sure you immediately cast Seal right after Winds of Watoomb so that it doesn't count as a stack of Mysticism on your next rotation; when done correctly the Seal will be cast and your Mysticism bar will completely be refreshed. Winds of Watoomb MUST be used at 5 stacks in this build to get a guaranteed critical hit from the talent Mystic Rejuvenation.
Healing
To play the Healing build all you need to do is swap 2 things:
1) Swap out Flames of the Faltine for Shield of the Seraphim
2) Swap the 2nd tier Talent, Guardian Seraphim for Benevolent Seraphim
To play this build you use the same exact rotation as the Incantations build but this time you'll have Shield of the Seraphim instead of Flames of the Faltine. This build is approximately a ~20s loss in DPS but the utility you gain will allow all your team mates to sustain long fights.
Common Questions
Q. Why are you not using Mystic Shift (his teleport)?
A. I swapped it out because Winds of Watoomb provides more damage, there's no real need for a teleport unless you know there's CC you absolutely must break out of like Onslaught's Prison, and I use his flight more since infinite teleporting is no longer possible.
Q. What do I do if I want to play with Mystic Shift (his teleport)?
A. For his tier 3 Talent, swap from Flame and Frost to Ritual Circle. Next swap out Seal of the Vishanti for Mystic Shift.
Alternatively, you can also swap out Flames of the Faltine for Mystic Shift but with this swap you lose a DPS layer.

Infinity Points
For now I only have 1100 Infinity Points so I'll only talk about what I'm currently doing. As time goes on I'll add more to the distributions you see here.
- Mind gem: 7 in Intelligence, rest in Deep Thought
- Time gem: max attack speed, rest in move speed
- Space gem: all in area damage
- Reality gem: max crit damage, rest in crit chance
- Soul gem: max brutal damage, rest in brutal strike chance
- Power gem: max signature damage
Items
Artifacts: My personal preference from testing has led me to believe these are the most optimal - Intelligence Crossbones Teaching Credentials (or cosmic CTC if you have it), Arnim Zola's ESP Box, Hood of the Reaper, and The Broken Crown. You should strive to find cosmic versions of each of these for the most optimal setup along with the two most important cosmic affixes (signature cooldown reduction and +1 To All Attributes).
Other artifacts that can be used in case you may not have artifacts that were listed above are: Edge of Infinity, Nick Fury Was Right T-Shirt, Advanced Shield Motion Analyzer, Cyclops Was Right T-Shirt, Sinister's Diamond, Gem of the Kursed, Tome of Oshtur, Mental Focused Headband, and a Kevlar Plated Helmet.
Uniques:
Dr. Strange's own slot 1 isn't very good but it's a nice starting point for people looking to get into playing Dr. Strange. The best choice here would be the Fragment of Twilight which gives him a great amount of stats all around. A second really good alternative would be the Bow of Einherjar.
For slot 2, Kraven's Lion Vest is the best offensive unique in its slot when combined with a team up that provides Vulnerability or when you're in a party since most people have Vulnerability powers. Kraven's Lion Vest is an incredibly strong slot 2 and provides all the stats Dr. Strange scales off of. An alternative slot 2 if you don't have a Kraven's Lion Vest would be the Standard Issue X-men Uniform as it provides good offensive and defensive stats but is slightly weaker than Kraven's by approximately 4%-6%. It's your call whether you want to be slightly stronger or slightly tankier but either way you won't notice much of a difference in the long run.
Dr. Strange's own slot 3 is best in slot and offers you more TTL and damage than any other.
Slot 4 is also best left to his own unique and offers way more damage than the alternatives plus you get a really cool proc that summons up to 3 Mindless Ones!
Currently the best slot 5 is Cobra's Hood. It offers a Vulnerability proc that allows you to use Kraven's Lion Vest without the use of a team up that procs Vulnerability. Cobra's Hood also offers a lot of critical hit rating and brutal strike rating along with a sizable flat damage rating and a nice DoT proc. The loss of power duration is made up for by all the DPS this item brings to the table.
Slot 5 honorable mentions - Essence of Jinn, his own slot 5, Sanjaku-Tenugi, Jocasta's Holographic Image Inducer and Brutally Awesome Summer Shades.
Runewords
I've tested 4 different Runewords and I'll list them out here in order from greatest to least: God of Mischief > Bowazon > Heartbreaker = Storm Giant Magi
God of Mischief: Offers very consistent damage and power duration which adds to a longer lasting signature and makes the Skrull X-men medallion's proc have a 100% uptime.
Bowazon: Not as consistent as the God of Mischief Runeword but offers the potential to be stronger depending on if it's proc brutes often enough.
Heartbreaker/Storm Giant Magi: Both are equal in terms of the overall DPS they provide to Dr. Strange. I'd recommend Storm Giant Magi to beginners who may not have the God of Mischief recipe or runes needed.
Catalyst
Try to get one with medkit, life on hit, and +3 Fighting (+3 Intelligence works too but is not my preference).
This is the one I currently use:
Insignias
Right now I'm using a Insignia of the Quake with 331 chr/1116 cdr. Other insignias that work well include Scarlet Witch, Wasp, Falcon, Clea, and O'grady. For the most damage you'll want a Quake with ~300 chr/1000+ cdr.
Medallion
Skrull X-men Medallion is currently the best medallion for Dr. Strange. It gives many beneficial stats Dr. Strange needs. Dr. Doom Medallion would be second best to use if you don't currently have a Skrull X-men Medallion. For both medallions the Power Duration stat must be in the green percent range for maximum efficiency, however, for Dr. Doom Medallion there is the added complication of needing a high roll Damage Rating stat as well. There is now a cool thing you can do with the Dr. Doom medallion where you can basically have a downtime on your signature of approximately 1 second but it also requires one cosmic artifact with the 10% Signature Cooldown Reduction affix.
Rings
Best in slot ring goes to the mental version of the Sling Ring of the Kamar-Taj (only found during the Dr. Strange event). Alternately you could use the mental ICP ring.
Pet
Blessings/Challenge Bonuses/Enchants
- Hela blessings now to make it easier to consistently brutal hit with Winds of Watoomb
- All Fighting Challenge Bonuses
- +100 Area Damage enchants to slots 1 & 5, +300 Health for the rest (this is my preference)
Legendaries:
For lvl 70: Gungnir for damage, Godkiller for prestiging/leveling
For lvl 80: Golden Bow of Apollo
Videos
**I'll be updating these at a later time since these videos are from before the Biggest Update Ever but for now they should give you an idea of what the rotation is like since that didn't change; current best TTK is 1:46 on the cosmic lvl 60 Raid Dummy**
Incantations TTK - 2 min 59s
CMM Trial using Healer Spec (since there's no more healer spec just assume this is with maxed out Shield of the Seraphim
Wrap Up
Dr. Strange is one of the best heroes in the game. He offers team wide utility, excellent support healing when using his Healing build, and superb damage. Dr. Strange is a hard hero to master but with practice you too can be a Sorcerer Supreme! Thanks for reading and best of luck to you.
Change List
- (3/31) This will be my last update to the guide for a long time, I will be quitting the game. Removed the Infinity Points section because it's easier to use the build on .info to see them. Optimized the Infinity Points for the new Infinity System 2.0
- (3/9) Swapped out Essence of Jinn for Cobra's Hood, cosmic Health affix for cosmic Spirit Cost Reduction affix, and Sam Wilson for Coulson. Removed the FAQ question about Sam Wilson. Uniques section has been updated with an explanation for the Cobra's Hood choice.
- (2/25) Swapped out Demons of Denak for Crimson Bands of Cytorakk since they do slightly more damage, thanks to Yepso for the idea. Swapped legendary from The Warlock's Eye to Golden Bow of Apollo. Placed some infinity points into Deep Thought to make spirit sustain easier due to the loss of spirit from The Warlock's Eye.

- (2/20) Made a few changes. First I swapped X-men Uniform slot 2 for Kraven's Lion Vest. Second I swapped Coulson for Sam Wilson. Third I added a new Q/A, rewrote the section on his slot 2 choices, and changed the picture of my gear to reflect the item changes I made.
- (2/13) Made a slight change to hero synergies; replaced Iron Fist synergy with Magneto for the extra damage boost to Winds of Watoomb.
- (2/12) Added a change to a Q/A response about Mystic Shift. Rewrote the "Runewords" section of the guide with information about other Runewords.
